SHOPPING BASICS
The Smart Shopping Checklist
A good purchase decision usually comes from checking a few important details before the checkout button. This checklist is designed to slow down the parts of shopping that deserve a second look without making every purchase complicated.
Start with the exact product, not the discount
Confirm the model, size, color, generation, included accessories and warranty before comparing prices. Similar-looking products can have different specifications or bundles.
A large percentage-off claim is less useful than knowing whether the item itself is the version you actually want.
Compare the total checkout cost
Look beyond the advertised item price. Shipping, delivery fees, required memberships, taxes and return shipping can change which offer is actually better.
When two retailers are close in price, return flexibility or faster delivery may be worth more than a small additional discount.
Check the seller and fulfillment terms
On marketplaces, verify who is selling and who is fulfilling the item. The marketplace name alone does not always identify the actual seller.
Review return windows, restocking fees, warranty handling and whether the item is new, open-box, refurbished or used.
